Hybrid surface treatment based on physical vapor deposition and thermochemical treatment for sintered metal partsAmélioration des propriétés de surfaces par traitement hybrides PVD – thermo-chimique de subtrats conventionnels et par métallurgie des poudres
Abstract
The aim of this PhD thesis is the development of a new surface treatment, which consists on combining firstly a metallic PVD layer coating followed by a thermochemical treatment. The produced hard coating should have an adequate gradient of properties to enhance mechanical surface performance (hardness, abrasion resistance, low coefficient of friction, etc.). To reach these goals, it is required to control both PVD deposition (layer composition, residual stress) and thermochemical (diffusion depth, hardness) parameters. The influence of substrate grain size on light element diffusion will also be studied to control the gradient of properties. The layer compound selected for this work is TiC, firstly deposited on sintered pure iron in order to understand the reactivity between only three elements, and secondly on a sintered austenitic stainless steel, 316L.Doctoral advisors
