The LabCom CLAS has recently acquired a new state-of-the-art instrument for the chemical characterization of metallic alloys: an S5 Solaris Plus optical emission spark spectrometer, manufactured by GNR Analytical Instruments Group and represented by Brice Bugna.

This investment was co-funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) throughthe LabCom CLAS program and the ANR RéCLasSIF ADN project. The acquisition strengthens the materials characterization platform of Arts et Métiers ParisTech – École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts et Métiers, Cluny Campus.
Thanks to this new equipment, it is now possible to accurately determine the chemical composition of alloys based on:
  • Iron
  • Aluminium
  • Copper
  • Nickel
  • Titanium
  • Cobalt

Key technical features of the spark optical emission spectrometer include:
  • Measurement of six alloy bases
  • Detection of 18 to 30 chemical elements, depending on the alloy base
  • Nitrogen quantification in iron-based alloys
